But...I hear you on the customers' petition CF. But, maybe it should be a petition of customers and potential customers? After all, I would wager that Pioneer loses a fair amount of business from all the potential customers who scurry past the store as fast as they can just to avoid the recycling scene! BTW, I notice that Stop and Shop has an in-store recycling center. It has never looked anything like the chaotic scene at Pioneer. Although I imagine that the constant presence of store security in and about the bottle redemption area also has something to do with maintaining "law and order" as well.Ceelledeenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541468051247516447.post-1605174796630229792012-08-03T14:15:35.205-04:002012-08-03T14:15:35.205-04:00I've spoken to the mangers, and frankly they d...I've spoken to the mangers, and frankly they don't like the scene either. There is a law requiring bottle returns, but you may limit the number per day, and not have it happen out of doors, which provides an unnecessary comfort level for problems. It seems to work elsewhere. And the leaving out the barrels of broken glass overnight is unconscionable. Look, only the owner seems to think this is a good idea, and his mind would change in a heartbeat (I think) if someone created a petition and presented it, saying that the community wants him to come up with a better solution. Better yet, let me add that the word "community" is sometimes lame or meaningless. Let them know that CUSTOMERS have had it. That will get his attention. If this is something you care about, I assure you that complaining on this blog won't do any good (believe me, my complaints go unheeded all the time!) I wholeheartedly support someone taking the initiative. While I'm "gone fishin'" at the moment, I'd be happy to help spread the word about the petition. One could even word it "We the customers of Pioneer" and ask that only people who shop there chime in. Just a thought.Clarkson FlatBedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13463744536115119388noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541468051247516447.post-47520194319495329872012-08-03T11:09:58.320-04:002012-08-03T11:09:58.320-04:00The Pioneer is a bit wacky but I like it. The staff is really very nice and so are the managers.

With that said, I can't agree with you more. As a newcomer (I'm here almost 4 years) that bottle place scared me. Now I ignore it but that is becoming more and more difficult.

I consider it a blight on the neighborhood.

If you want to do the Parkside Prize and redo the subway station? First you have to CLEAN UP PARKSIDE and the starting point needs to be that bottle dump.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541468051247516447.post-90757700690656376152012-08-02T19:34:33.681-04:002012-08-02T19:34:33.681-04:00Not surprisingly, another argument broke out today...Not surprisingly, another argument broke out today. And this Summer there was a fight between two men with pipes, it was so bad that multiple police cars rushed in.

This is out of hand, we're scaring people away with this nonsense. I dislike Pioneer Supermarket itself, but this takes it to a whole new level. I've had it with the filth, arguments, seeing homeless men outside all day, etc. It's just ridiculous.

What are the visitors of PLG or recent newcomers going to think? This is just damaging the name, and even though PLG is a neighborhood that's not known by many and it's nestled in quietly, it still should not have this in place.

Those people can go somewhere else. I'm tired of it. I will personally talk to the manager of Pioneer. But something seriously has to be done about it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541468051247516447.post-53796150839721076342012-07-31T00:09:55.046-04:002012-07-31T00:09:55.046-04:00The Q covered the topic of the canners some time a...The Q covered the topic of the canners some time ago. Picking up bottles for recycling is a way lots of these people eat. I agree, it's not very attractive, but I can't imagine where else they would put it. Maybe they would be open to limiting the hours (although I have a vague recollection of them already being limited). And may be they could be encouraged to empty the giant containers of glass sooner?ElizabethChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18316599865446371061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541468051247516447.post-76052131839005487312012-07-29T12:50:01.094-04:002012-07-29T12:50:01.094-04:00This is on an irrelevant note, but seriously... Ca...This is on an irrelevant note, but seriously... Can we have a petition for all PLGers? The petition will be about removing that disgusting bottle recycling station at the Pioneer Supermarket? It ruins the appearance of the neighborhood, especially Parkside Avenue. As if those annoying barrels full of broken glass weren't enough, there are half a dozen homeless men outside there (sometimes causing problems) and there's no way to really walk around with all of them in the way. They're troublemakers. We're not trying to make PLG look like the next Coney Island with all the homeless, drunk men interspersed all over the place. There needs to be something done about the bottle recycling station, many people are fed up about it. It should have been gone long ago. Any suggestions?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541468051247516447.post-533301585277628622012-07-29T00:17:05.794-04:002012-07-29T00:17:05.794-04:00I know that lighting is powerful, as any theater l...I know that lighting is powerful, as any theater light designer will tell you, but it can start huge fires?
