The only 2 differences are the mailboxes are in the main lobby, they used to be towards the back, and there used to be a vestibule at the entrance.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541468051247516447.post-22576952268351591832010-10-01T20:05:23.586-04:002010-10-01T20:05:23.586-04:00I'm a DP'er now too, and I grew up on Ocea...I'm a DP'er now too, and I grew up on Ocean betw Parkside & Lincoln @239. I sometimes feel like the only true local. In the 60s the white flight was already in full swing but my mother stuck it out until the druggies moved in and that was the last straw. She moved us all the way to Midwood.

Parkside cleaners has been there forever, as have a very few other stores. Tic Toc cleaners on Flatbush, just north of Parkside was the best though. The sign was there up until about 2005 and then it closed. I'm friends with the original family. I even went to get the neon sign that they had but couldn't find anybody that would retrieve it for me.

The pizza joint on Flatbush, directly across from what was Tic Toc has been there since the early-mid 60s. I'll have to bike down and see what else is still original from the 50s to 60s at least.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541468051247516447.post-32307790670547016172010-10-01T13:58:29.976-04:002010-10-01T13:58:29.976-04:00I just discovered your blog through the Ditmas Par...I just discovered your blog through the Ditmas Park one. Interesting post. I grew up in Cincinnati and make it back there a few times a year. I find it so ironic that my parents were very upset at my sister and I moving to NYC only to realize that now, almost 15 years later, NYC is much safer than Cincy. I feel more afraid in OTR and Northside than I do in Flatbush. I hope the best for the city and would like to see it revived.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541468051247516447.post-23378369833942889852010-09-27T18:03:46.498-04:002010-09-27T18:03:46.498-04:00Keep it up, Clarkson.
