The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

The Angriest Man In Brooklyn

No, not our hotheaded State Senator Kevin Parker (yes the district lines are changing and he might soon be your man in Albany), but the film version of The Angriest Man in Brooklyn starring the delightful Robin Williams, ol' "Patch Adams" himself. Seems certain blocks around here look SO Brooklyn that they almost pass for the real thing. Babs caught a couple of pics of shooting up on Lincoln III, which by the way doesn't correspond to other IIIs since Lincoln goes west of Flatbush for a block, meaning that a III on Lincoln is really like a II on Midwood, say. Must be hard to remember where your house is! Now the pics:

Did anyone nab a gander of Robin? Anyone inconvenienced? Dumb question...anyone REALLY upset about being inconvenienced?

Lincoln III? Not in my Lefferts Manor-centric view :-) Actually, when that sort of designation got started (well before I bought my house--38 years ago this month) there wasn't much on the Ocean--Flatbush block of Lincoln (Lincoln O?)--sort of like the last month or so.

I'd probably be really upset about the inconvenience of filming IF I lived on Lincoln II (III?). I got really pissed about the "Thank You for Sharing" shoot on Midwood II last fall. I know all the arguments about what film shoots bring to the NYC ecomony and admit they're valid, but it's such a PITA when it's outside your home!

They are shooting for two more days this week, on Lincoln and also on Bedford.

Bob's right, block designations have always begun counting from Flatbush east. I like Lincoln Zero to designate the park block. It sounds like some sort of WW2 radio codename.

One reason might be that Ocean Avenue, and the Flatbush--Ocean blocks leading too it weren't defined as being in PLG when PLGNA was founded and coined the Prospect Lefferts Gardens name in the late '60s. I distinctly remember the boundaries being moved a block west in the mid-'70s, a year or so after I moved here. For that matter, PLG was originally defined as ending at Winthrop, although the boundary had been moved south to Clarkson by the early '70s. All these boundaries, of course, are quite arbitrary.

I personally find certain block parties where they play eardrum-exploding music to be far more horrifying and life altering than a film crew arriving for a few days.

To each his own but IMO there's a big difference between block parties and film shoots. The former can't be more than once a year on any given block and getting a permit requires a petition signed by the majority of households. Film shoots are often on multiple days and the permitting process takes no account of residents' wishes.

Bob, I think there's maybe been a film shoot only twice TOTAL since we moved here 5 years ago.

It's true that there aren't a lot (and hooray for that!) but I can recall three on my block alone. Perhaps they're a necessary evil of city life, but that doesn't make them them any less of a PITA.
