The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Can't Get Enough...Of That Funky Stuff

Kool and the Gang may very well have been talking about shoes. My Funky Shoes is open for business, on the 'Bush between Fenimore and Rutland, and I'm here to testify that it's one fine specimen of Brooklyn boutique. The Boss Lady is Janeen "JoJo" Bannister, and she's set the bar high for craaaaazy shoes. There'll even be kooky kids shoes soon enough.

I stopped in today and JoJo and her son were busy with customers, so things are clearly off to a good start. Stop in and wish them well, and check out the funky inventory. And if you need a video presentation, here 'tis:

I had enough just simply walking past this place. There was a huge speaker blasting music at a level I could hear still around the corner and half way down the block. You would literally need to cover your ears to walk into the shop.

The noise pollution is just as bad as the overflowing garbage cans on the corner. Can't imagine anyone who walks by a deafening speaker in their ear saying to themselves, now maybe I should stop in for a pair of funky shoes.

Give a girl her grand opening party, dude! You think that's something, wait til Carnival on Labor Day.

If quiet is your thing, you may have wandered into the wrong neighborhood!

Now, that guy who's been blasting music out of his apartment onto the street on the west side of Flatbush between Parkside and Westbury Ct is another matter. If it's that loud on the street, I can only imagine what his neighbors are dealing with. I would appreciate it if y'all would call 311 when you hear it to give the folks in the "DJ's" building a fighting chance of shutting him down. They really do look at that data folk... Dept of Env Protection has only that to go on sometimes.
