The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

The Lawsuit

The below pretty much speaks for itself. I would add that CB9 will be represented by NYC Corporate Counsel, and while I'd like to say the lawsuit is a mere distraction, it's upped the stress level quite a bit, for Pearl and everyone else. I'm cautiously amused, but the real drag is that each allegation has an answer that could have been easily comprehended, if not appreciated, without the legalese and the wast of everyone's time and goodwill.

Oh, and this 501c3 non-profit she's been using to raise legal fees? It's actually just her, an organization with a curiously non-MTOPP mission. It's called New Directions in Healing, and it's basically Ms. Boyd's show. Meaning she has sole discretion of how those tax-deductible funds are allocated. And then she has the huevos to serve the Board a lawsuit for impropriety. Using that money. Holy mackerel. From weird to weirderer.

The next voice Jonathan Wallace will hear will come from Alicia Boyd as she roars at him for an hour, showering him with all her lunacies and paranoid delusions, then refuses to pay for services rendered.

He'll have as much success in support of her irrational demands as that "powerhouse" law firm had when it was engaged to stop the construction of 626 Flatbush.

Interesting fellow on many levels, and know that we know something about him, it's within reason to wonder if his goal in taking this case is to give himself material around which he can create some theater.

Maybe he's thinking the new "Rent"? Maybe he believes Alicia Boyd is an underdog rather than a mad dog? He'll learn, though he probably already knows the score.

Especially since for City agencies most of the work, and all of the cost, involved in defending the law suite is the responsibility of the Law Department (AKA Corporation Council). It's not that big a deal for CB 9.

I took a glance over at the New Directions in Healing website. Pretty much a clearinghouse for all manner of quackery and woo-woo nonsense.
Obviously Ms. B is no neophyte in the art of the scam. But as you said, plenty of huevos...

Granted I'm new to this nonprofit biz, but it seems Ms Boyd is misusing funds and her Board of Directors needs to come under some serious scrutiny for this. Where is her annual report? All monies coming in and out of a nonprofit are public information.

Carmen, that's fascinating - I did not know that. Where can we go to see this public information? I sincerely doubt anyone on her BoD would disagree with her insanity, however.

There are several places to post public budget info as a nonprofit. One obvious place is her website. Another is Guidestar, which posts links to the filled 990 form. You can also look them up on the IRS tax exempt database to see what financial paperwork has been filed.

I looked up New Directions In Healing on every database I had to register and I can't find them. So either its not a registered nonprofit, its status has been revoked, or its registered under a different name. I haven't found any filed 990's (which is required) or any listing that confirms the organization has been issued nonprofit status on either the federal or state level (I searched NY only).

Things that make you go hmmm...

I have an awesome conspiracy theory.

Alicia Boyd was actually hired by the DEVELOPERS to disrupt any and all earnest and logical community organization opposed to development.

It all makes sense now.

You think? :-)
