Thanks to CB9, PLGNA and the ever-dogged efforts of one Alex E., there are now granite blocks (hopefully) deterring the ever flagrant chaotic driving in and out of the BP station. What think?
The Q at Parkside
News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

A good change, no doubt, but the granite block nearest the intersection of Washington and Lefferts needs to be moved a little to block the traffic. I've already seen 2 cars coming out there, so that one spot is still a problem.
A nice idea, but poor execution. There are half as many blocks as needed. Watched a dollar van zip right between the blocks this evening as I was walking my son home.

Hi All,
I got a call from Dr. Eugene's office, and after thanking Heather profusely for her efforts, I let her know that the placement of the barriers still allows cars to pass through. She was disappointed and reached out to DOT to find out what the deal is. She called me back and let me know that the granite barriers are actually a short term solution, and that there is a larger plan in the works to deal with traffic patterns around the forsaken BP triangle. I am looking forward to the full plan!
yep. leaves something to be desired. thankfully there's another mtg with DOT coming a week from Monday re: the Flatbush Trees. We'll discuss what we've seen of the stone chunks' effectiveness. Please keep an eye out for obvious changes for the better and note them here.
I saw a van driving out of the wheelchair ramp and into the crosswalk at the Washington & Lincoln corner of the triangle, then had to back up twice in order to make the turn to go north on Washington. There is something about that triangle that brings out bizarre driving behavior.
LOL, the drivers just go between the blocks!
Thanks, Alex and all. What I've seen over 3 days: 2 cars driving into station through Washington/Lefferts pedestrian curbcut; 2 westbound Lefferts cars turning left at high speed into the WRONG LANE of Flatbush, to quickly U into the station just before a van or car arrived at light.
As for how to prevent the Dukes of Hazzard U turns into the BP that I saw... I don't know. DOT at minimum could paint one of those dotted turn arcs to show the proper route through the intersection for any turning cars.
Yep, looking forward to the full plan.
