The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Waynie's Waffles on Weekends

Whoa Nelly! Leave it to Michael Campbell of local wine store 65 Fen to sneak up on us. After months closed, the space next to his wine store (at 65a Fenimore) is open again, as Delroy's during the week, but...get this...as Waynie's Waffles on the weekends for brunch. The waffleist in question is named, coincidentally, Wayne, and apparently his Waffles are aWard Winning. Check 'em out in the coming weeks and let the Q know what you think.

To answer the third most-oft-asked question in my in-box, MC's PLG Outpost two doors down encountered technical difficulty, not unlike the the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and may never carry passengers again. While orders were made and shelves built, the operation is as stalled as Moses Fried's NoTel Hotel at 205 Parkside. C'est la vie, mes amies. That's French for "no baguettes for you!"

Congrats to MC, the "King". Wha an entrepreneur. Going there for waffles on the weekend.

Sounds great. I haven't been inside this space yet. Is it big enough to go with two toddlers or will we be ruining it for all the other patrons? Sounds like a great option for these cold winter mornings when I want to get out with the family but I don't want to ruin our neighbors relaxing brunch!

This would be cool if any of his establishments kept regular hours, but they don't, so it's pointless to ever go there. Too bad. I'd love to support a local business owner. Speaking of, what happened with his much talked about PLG Outpost?

Unfortunately, I have to concur with the comment at Anon @ 11:31... I won't walk down to Fenimore & Flatbush if I can't know for sure whether the place is going to be open.

unrelated to waffles, Bktwinmom, thanks for demonstrating a rather rare parental sense of children's impact on small nyc spaces via your question. I love kids and babies dearly, but sometimes their boisterous energy can really affect the experience of others. Thanks for being so aware of others, may they do the same for you and your tots.

I don't know any parents in our neighborhood anyway who don't care how their children affect others' experience dining out. It's not so rare here. Can't say that about the other Brooklyn neighborhood I will not name. We ourselves are very conscious of it. I think how people react to children simply being children (not extreme behavior) illustrates whether they are happy people or unhappy people, in general especially if you see the parents ARE trying. We went for brunch at Enduro weekend before last and all my son did was walk past a couple back and forth two or three times, talking quietly to himself pretending something while we were putting on coats to leave, and the couple gave him hostile looks and muttered to each other, all put out. In total contrast, the table of three 20-something guys sitting next to us when we dined couldn't have been more cool. And they had to put up with us longer. Great guys. Good catches, young single ladies of PLG.
