Well I'll be hog tied if this ain't the orneriest lookin' hitchin' post I done seen!
Hipper parts of NYC may have gotten theres first, but the Q is happy to report that the City still considers Caledonian PLG Flatbush to be part of its overall bike-centric modernization campaign.
I gave it a go just yesterday, and I gotta say I think they're keepers. Not as goofy as David Byrne's set of novelty bike racks, like the $ shaped ones at Wall Street...just good common sense urban design. So far I've seen dogs and gramma carts tied up to them as well. Other uses, anyone?
The Q at Parkside
News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

in complete seriousness: I looked at them last week and assumed they were the north flatbush answer to keeping people from driving up on the sidewalk.
It looks like the Greek letter theta, no?
According to Wikipedia:
"In classical Athens, it was used as an abbreviation for the Greek θάνατος (thanatos, “death”) and as it vaguely resembles a human skull, theta was used as a warning symbol of death, in the same way that skull and crossbones are used in modern times."
Make of this what you will...
Mr Q,
Do you know if Bike-share is coming to Caledonia?
mike h. - yes, and maybe. As in, DOT and the company that's going to run the show have been out to discuss it with the Community Board, and the latest map I saw had bike share locations in PLG/Caledonia BUT they were asking for community input about where and where not to site the docking stations. You can request a bike share location here: http://a841-tfpweb.nyc.gov/bikeshare/ The company that's running it is called Alta Bike Share. When I know more I'll be sure to post...
I saw a fellow perched on one like he was sitting on a fence.
