Hard to believe it's just a year. The little cocktail bar that could certainly has.
And for those of you who prefer a little gossip with your flyers, Erv's will soon triple in size. Don't think I need to tell you how that's gonna happen.
The Q at Parkside
News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

On the one hand, I'm happy for Erv's. They are a great neighborhood spot. On the other hand, I'm reaaaaallly unhappy about losing my laundry spot. They are going to have to offer Beemkan Pl residents a lot more than $1 coffees to make up for that.
It's GREAT to hear the place will actually get to expand like they want. It's an amazing little bar.
My band used to play at Sudsy Malone's, in Cincinnati. It was a bar and laundry mat. It was awesome for travelling musicians. Biggest problem? Remembering to take your clean clothes home with you at the end of the night.
Getting rid of the Laundry spot is a bad move... They will get rid of one of the things that makes the spot memorable to some and just become another bar with overpriced drinks.
That laundry mat has lower prices and actual hot water. The one around the corner will be able to absorb the business but many folks will be upset with losing this laundry spot.
So what happened? Is the laundry owner unable to afgord the spot any longer? Is the dollar store next?
The whole building was bought a couple years ago. When I wrote it about it then, the plan was to gradually move into the commercial spaces with new businesses. It was just a matter of the length of the leases. There are tons of other businesses in the same situation all over the nabe...they'll be gone as soon as their lease is up as landlords realize they can find tenants willing to pay more. Actually, most of them already realize this. Where residents have rental protections (often) commercial tenants have only leases, and even those are often cancelled or bought out due to various circumstances. New leases to longtime tenants who don't fit the right "profile" are often given shorter leases or month to month until a better paying customer comes along.
Whats up with the Subway on Beekman and flatbush - when will that get taken over?
