The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Want some good veggies you can pick up weekly at the Prospect Park station? Then join the local CSA. It gets raves, and you'll have to pry the Q's Park Slope Food Coop Membership from his cold dead hands, the CSA is a perfect alternative to working 2 3/4 hours a month and you can keep healthy and force yourself to cook with foods you've never even dreamed of eating. Here's the details from the indefatigable Karen Oh:

PLG CSA also offers a year-round meat share through Herondale Farm. You may join at any time and they will pro-rate the cost. See our Meat CSA page on our website for more information on pickup and to download the flyer and registration information.

One of the challenges we have is getting the word out, especially in apartment buildings because doors are locked. Help us and your neighborhood out by:
  • Hanging a flyer in your apartment building. Download a flyer here.
  • Emailing your friends or listervs personally. Use this handy dandy CSA "ad" here.
  • Forward this email to 10 friends/neighbors, it'll be the best (non-pyramid) scheme ever!
  • If you want to help pass out brochures or flyers, or drop them off at businesses, please contact board@plgcsa.org
  • If you want to flyer at a subway stop for 30 minutes, you'd be surprised at how many people you can reach and how entertaining it is (even more so with a buddy).
  • If you want to get more involved in the nitty-gritty of running a great CSA, contact us!
If you have any questions or for more information, please visit the website at plgcsa.org or contact us at board@plgcsa.org or 347-823-1076.

Thanks and looking forward to seeing you this summer!
