The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Shooting Near Parade Ground

Damn, damn, damn. See that helicopter hovering above the Parade Ground earlier this eve? It wasn't whistling dixie. Been quiet over near the Ground for awhile. Thank god no one was killed. The line "boy fled on bike" speaks volumes.

FLATBUSH — A teenage boy shot and wounded a woman and a teen girl across from the parade ground near Prospect Park Tuesday afternoon, sources said.

The unidentified 34-year-old woman was struck in the shoulder and the 14-year-old girl was hit in the leg, according to sources. They were taken to Kings County Hospital about 5 p.m., according to the FDNY. Their wounds were not life threatening.

The boy fled on a bike, but was quickly apprehended near the Brooklyn Museum, sources said.

The Winds of the De Blasio Apocalypse are blowing. Unfortunately, there will be many more shootings and more unarmed young African Americans shot and killed by other young African Americans. Where are our political leaders and activists? Where is the "outrage."

I have no idea what you're talking about. Shootings are up 4% city-wide. Is that an apocalypse?

Here's the thing. The shootings in Brooklyn have been pretty equally distributed in neighborhoods that are largely black. There's no particular spot, corner or neighborhood that jumps out. You're pointing to a very, very, very long history of violence in the poorest, blackest parts of the country. (poor white areas have a lot of violence too, but that gets "whitewashed.") I wouldn't begin to go into the reasons why right now. Feel free to go back in my posts though to read some theories.

Until the numbers go up considerably, all you'll hear is lip service. It's not that people don't care; it's that we haven't organized and screamed loud enough. After a shooting, everybody goes back to normal. It's sad, but that's life in the big city.

If you're new to it, get used to it. It's how Brooklyn rolls.

Why waste time on trolls like this? Schmucks like this just like to sound off from their perches in their parents' basements in Hempstead or some other Long Island pit.

Oh my god! So that's what I saw yesterday when walking down Washington to get to the gym. There were about 5-8 cops converging on a young teen boy (he couldn't have been older than 16), placing him in handcuffs. This happened adjacent to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, not far from the museum. I thought that the number of officers used to apprehend a boy was a bit excessive, but now I know why.

De Blasio had better nip this problem soon before it spirals. It's only May and there have been more shootings this month than I can remember.

And he's against adding more cops? Is he for real? Do you know how many shootings there have been in a span of a week? it's only going to get worsr if he doesn't act fast and get off his "progressive" high horse and focus on securing funds for more cops.
