The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Back for the First Time - PLG Outpost

It's been just 19 months or so since I last posted about PLG Outpost, Michael Campbell's latest venture in his ever-evolving loveable strip mall on Fenimore, along with wine store 65 Fen and Delroy's. I wrote that it would open "as soon as next weekend" in February, 2012. Well, guess what? If I'd said 80 weeks from now, I'd have been just about right. Today I rode by and the door was open. Michael ushered me to the door and here's what I saw:

He listed a ton of neat sounding food items that I promptly forgot. Artisanal Brooklyn made things, don't you know. Some fancy kombucha, good coffee, cheese, breads, all from local vendors. I'm not going to predict an opening date (though he said as early as Saturday), but here's hoping for a sweet addition to our foodstuff options.

(And I hear Delroy's has undergone a major upgrade thanks to chef Brian Lindsay. And regular hours to boot. Anybody want to drop a review on us?)

Delroy's finally has their liquor license. The always friendly folks there are serving up mimosas and yummy brunch items. A great neighborhood vibe!

Had a very delicious and beautifully presented Wally's Waffle Brunch today with the hubby and good friends served by the very friendly and hospitable Wally himself. We all highly recommend a visit and are all looking forward to having dinner there soon.

I really want these 3 shops to thrive but it's hard to get excited about any of this when there never seem to be regular hours adhered to. We have completely stopped even bothering to walk over for wine or anything else because they're always closed. It would be great if Michael could post their hours and confirm that they will be open during business hours. Cheers!

If one must keep irregular hours then one must put what the hours each week or day will be in the window. And in addition to that maintain a website or Facebook page on which there are daily or weekly posts about what the hours will be. The two local kids stores both do that.
