How could you not love the news that the Empire Blvd entrance to the Botanic Garden is open again, starting tomorrow? And the new "Discovery Garden" is open as well.
But the Q has a bone to pick. What's up with the new "Yellow Magnolia" bullshit? I've been eating at that wonderful Garden cafe, and LOVING it, since 1989 when I got a job for $19,400 a year working at The Brooklyn Museum. Then some crappy zeitgeist caterer comes in and totally messes it up. The chili sucks. No more burgers. No Chunky Chicken Salad. The Hot Dog is too skinny. The salads are...weird.
Anyone else bummin'?
The Q at Parkside
News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

I really wish you'd just stop updating this blog. Your opinions suck and your writing is horrible. The only reason I visit is because you're the only game in town. But I've had it. Just stop. You are the problem with our neighborhood.
I love it, Anon. Complaining about a blog you regularly read is hilarious. Trust me, there's plenty other "games in town." It's a blog for chrisake. And I don't pretend to be the voice of anything other than myself.
Head on over to the Prospect Lefferts Gardens Facebook page. Tons of different voices there. And don't let the door hit you on the way out!

One of Alisha Boyde's muppets much?
I think so
I like your blog. Keep up the good work
And what would a non-sucking opinion be, Anon @ 6:07? I don't think you understand how opinions and/or the internet work.
Hi - Yes I agree the food is not good. After all the hoopla and the long wait, it seems anticlimactic. It doesn't make sense, they made it sound like the food was going to be this amazing new menu. There's no dessert, either! And there's a lot of confusion online - there was supposed to be a canteen and then a restaurant called a cafe. But when I asked last time I was there, they told me there was only this little Canteen. Sigh.

agreed, the new restaurant is pricey, fewer options and i miss the old crew that were so friendly and nice to regulars.
is there still beer?
I've never eaten at BBG, but I would highly recommend Bluestone at Lakeside in Prospect Park. Their food is actually pretty good, including a very solid black bean burger and addicting fries. Some good salad options too, and they sell alcohol.
The point isn't where else we can eat (though yes Bluestone is good!) the point is the BBG directed money away from other programs, canceling educational programs, closing the entire science program, firing employees, all to pay for this thing and if you are going to do that the results have to be AWESOME. That is, if you're going to succeed at any fundraising ever again. Or increasing membership numbers. Everything my longtime friend who is longtime employee there says about the leadership seems true and then some.
