The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

New Mathieu Eugene Piece Beggars Belief

Apparently staffers for The Onion are now working for our Councilman. Perhaps most hilarious of all is the fact that I was reappointed to the Community Board by...you guessed it, Mathieu Eugene. Says so right there on the letter. I guess he thought I was a different Tim Thomas? The hockey player maybe? The basketball player? A guy who supports him?

Pretty sure he just went to the NASA trailer that was set up near City Hall last week. I walked by there and saw a bunch of tourists waiting on line to stick their head in the photo-op astronaut cutout.

That looks like it was from last week's science fair. And Tim, maybe he wants to be friends now ;)

Up to now the good doctor has been a lightweight on the Council. Looks like he's now going for complete weightlessness!

What is this guy's highest level of education?

So many of Dr. Eugene's pieces beggar belief–it must have been hard for Tim to single one out.

In answer to Anon. 9:42's question, he has an MD degree from, I think, a Mexican medical school. While such degrees don't actually permit one to practice medicine in this country, Eugene is entitled to the honorific "Dr." just as someone with a PhD would be. As an aside, Pearl Miles once yelled at me for calling him "Doctor Eugene" but that's actually correct.

Supposedly, medical school in Mexico.

He actually is a Medical Doctor, but he has never been certified to practice in the US. He studied medicine in Belgium and Mexico, I think he told me.

Everything I see or learn about M. Eugene makes me even more disgusted with Yvette Clarke. Eugene has no idea what he's doing wrong. None. No clue. Clarke is the one who was and is supposed to know what makes a good and qualified person to represent our district. She was completely, utterly opportunistic in choosing and backing Eugene. It was more important for her to have somebody she owned in that seat than to back a far more intelligent and capable person who might sometimes go their own way. Or heavens forbid, try to go higher than Clarke has gone? Become competition? We need to get this clown of hers out. Find a candidate who can appeal to a broader population of the district and then go all out in supporting them. As for Clarke, I personally am not voting for her again. I know that means not voting Democrat but oh well. I just can't cast that vote.

Can we all agree that this bozo does not get reelected and we get some real representation in City Hall for this fantastic neighborhood?

He is, without doubt, the saddest mistake of a City Councilman the district could possibly have. I do not understand why he gets reelected. When I get his silly mailings, I toss them, unread.

Mathieu Eugene gets re-elected because his supporters vote for him. The turnout when he was last re-elected was beyond pathetic, and, unfortunately, the Working Families Party endorsed him, so anyone who knew nothing about him most likely just voted for him based on that. Very sad.

He is supported by the county organization. Much more than he is supported by the WFP and with that he has a valuable and loyal vote for speaker of the council. That will be the case yet again when Melissa Mark Viverito is term limited in 2017- don't be surprised to see county guys like Frank Seddio doing all they can to keep Mathieu in office.

The working families party doesn't have a ton of pull in the district(Dianna Richardson obv contradicts that but she also didnt run against an officially democratic line). Having said that, with a quick glance at the primary of 2013(he received under 50%) it becomes obvious that the WFP doesn't need to have a great deal of pull in the district they just need to support someone other than Mathieu.

I know of a few people, I have even had 1 call me.

i wrote a nasty letter to the working families party after that, asking on what basis they arrived at their endorsement and they didn't answer. Probably hospital union stuff.

He's in office because as I said above, a very important political figure, Yvette Clarke, put him there. Period. Yes she and her supporters get out the vote better than all the rest of us for the candidates we prefer, but he wouldn't be there in the first place or remain there if it were not for her. Remember, he didn't even live in this neighborhood when he was elected (still doesn't but not like the city seems to care about such things) and still he got to take office because nobody would do that to a Clarke-backed candidate, tell him he's disqualified.
