The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Solid Sushi Comin' To the 'Bush

See that word "Deli" to the left of popular swillery Midwood Flats? That's about to become an outpost of popular sushi joint Silver Rice, a place that earned raves up above Eastern Parkway. So what do we know besides the killer reviews on the Yelp?

Heading over to their site the Q found just the description he was looking for. I find the verbiage charming to say the least. I suspect this will be a very welcome addition to the restaurant choices 'round here.

"We are Hideki and Sonny, long-time friends and the proud owners of Silver Rice. Both from Nagoya, Japan, we were brought together, of course, by food (free pizza at a hostel in Chelsea, to be exact). Combining our individual knowledge of the food industry, we started throwing around ideas to bring Japanese food culture to New York City. Ten years after we met, we opened the doors to our first restaurant: Silver Rice. We are thrilled by the positive responses of our customers and are excited to continue building our business partnership through additional ventures in the food industry."

thx Mindy for the tip!

It's good, but quite pricey in my opinion and doesn't fill my craving for more standard sushi and Japanese (basic rolls, tempura, teriyaki). I would love a good, traditional sushi place in the nabe.

it's delish - I just moved from Crown Heights to PLG and I'm so excited about this!

Haven't been, but their menu looks great! I don't see prices out of line, either -- sushi is expensive if it's fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Wish these guys well.

Sushi Tatsu is what you are asking for and it already exists a block away

Hmmm. I ain't no "snob," but the Q don't dig the Tatsu. Curious what others think. I love sushi. Just not feeling the Tatsu.

tatsu not so bad but tatsu not so good either.

I'm not a big fan of sushi, but more choices are good, even if I'm unlikely to use this one.

If this is true then this is a great development. Tastu is "eh" in my book although they are cheaper than average. I will definitely frequent silver rice.

Tatsu has mediocre reviews and none of their branches are close to me, so I never bothered with it. The portions at Silver Rice seemed small to my friend and I hence the impression that it was expensive, but maybe I should give it another shot.

I think we can all just be happy that the huge amount of empty storefronts on Flatbush, Rogers, and Nostrand are finally starting to get turned into viable businesses. I have lived in the neighborhood for years and find myself spending my money out of PLG due to the lack of good local restaurants and delivery food.

Keeping local money spent in the neighborhood only benefits everyone.

I am a sushi snob and I can't rock with Tatsu. It's a whatever place that I haven't walked inside in maybe 5 years. If Silver Rice is better than Taro on Flatbush I'll be a happy man.

Any updates on whether or not this is happening? Love Silver Rice but can't always make the trek to their current spot. Would love to see them in PLG.

Tatsu is as mediocre sushi as you can get. Silver rice is not expensive. A rice cup may cost slightly more than a roll but you will definitely be full if you finish it.
