The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Another day, another closing

If a picture paints a thousand words, minimum, then this one could fill a shelf at the lie-bury. You know, where they bury the lies.

I'll admit I never understood how they stayed in business, so little traffic in and out. Lotsa Pampers I guess, and spices and lentils. Remember that little place on the west side of Flatbush almost up to Empire? Yips, I think it was called. Handpainted sign right on the door. Always seemed like the folks were family, mostly sitting around and playing games. The new urban professionalism and the rents that go with it suggest that shops like this will continue to go.

If you'd like, I'll mark the businesses on a given block that won't be there in five years unless they change their business model.

...my accuracy rate is above 90%.

I'll be much more impressed, Mike, if you can narrow in on 6 months.

Folks-
When I don't charge for a service, you can't ask me to change my hue or my timeline.

hee-hee...I think you both made very safe bets. Why not go out on a limb? Btw, 7:19 wasn't asking you to change. You know those white guys in college who tried desperately to be black? And how awkward and absurd it all was? Just be yourself. Let people hate you for what you are, that's my motto...

I prefer that people love or hate me based on WHO I am, as opposed to WHAT I am.

...but I know that I don't get to control what others do or why.

BTW, do you think this place will become a coffee shop with speedy wifi?

The corner market near our old apt in park slope, the one where nobody shopped and dust covered everything, turned out to be doing all kinds of illegal things. Including cock fights in the basement! Poor chickens. I'm very suspicious of businesses that keep paying rent okay for a long time despite never having many customers. The money has to be coming in somehow. Hey Q, can you do a story on the magic or voodoo, apologies for not knowing the correct term for that in Caribbean culture. They could disappear too when lease is up. Or not, if landlord is too afraid to do that to them. Lastly, can I say how sad I am Smile for Every Sistah in You either changed hands or just changed the delightful name.
