The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Neon Groceries

Have y'all noticed how many new shoppes have flashing or neon signs? I wonder if the price point fell. Here's the new grocery on Woodruff at night:

Yes! There the drug store that's opening on flatbush and King of Tandoor got a new sign as well.

The flashing signs in Lefferts are illegal as they violate the rules of a historic district. The new pharmacy on Winthrop and Flatbush is an example of this.

None of these signs are actually in any of our neighborhood's three Historic Districts, but I agree that there're ugly. They may violate regulations other than those pertaining to HDs.

I hope people call 311 to complain. Although it is very hard to get DOB to ever respond to signage complaints.

if i lived across from that i might invest in a slingshot.

It's an eyesore but the lights are already so bright on that street doesn't it really bother anyone?

These signs are SO ugly. But with the sidewalks so dark here I guess it's good some neon signs actually light up the sidewalk. Too many delis cover their windows in shelves, they need the space, and not much light comes out of the windows.

You sort of have to admire these sign-making companies. Just when you think our local visual environment couldn't get any worse, they come up with an "innovation" even more garish and ugly. Expect these new eyesores to just up the ante.

It would seem that high rents are no impediment to looking "low-rent."

The signage for Wholesome Foods at Montgomery and Washington is similar.
