The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sweats

Lenox at Bedford, and Lenox tween Rogers and Bedford. Bird cages. With birds. What gives?

Birds Cooking In the Sun? Or Just Enjoying A Day Out On the Town?
I don't know nothin' about birds, but beyond the curious imagery of the street art, is there a reason why one might not want the birds to bask in the hot sun for too long? Granted the temp outside is probably in the safe zone. But like Tantalus, I wonder if this isn't a Big Tease to these animals.

I'm trusting, perhaps foolishly, that this is but a brief exhibition. Anybody know?

I don't know the name of the bird but it is native to Guyana and I had a Guyanese neighbor tell me that in their country that the birds compete in singing competitions and the birds themselves are worth about 1K each plus they can make money by entering them in competitions. These birds need to be outside for a certain amount of the day, possibly the owner lives in the area. Hope so!

I saw a man on Flatbush Avenue and Parkside holding that same bird cage, I wasn't sure if he was selling the bird but I notice it because my daughter pointed and said "Look a bird inside of a cage, how did he capture it" I was actually curious to why he was standing outside on the corner of Parkside with the bird inside the cage.
