Not the guy opening the shoppe, nor is this his baby. |
Scratch that. A wine store is definitely coming, but the old Blue Roost spot didn't pan out.
If you have a good lead, why not shoot me an email, since I know who the resident is that's opening a shoppe.

Anyone know what's up with the former Enduro/LPT? When I walked by the other night, the gate was up and there appeared to be some activity inside.
I heard about this from the owner of TB Ackersons (Cortelyou Rd.) He hired somebody a year ago who wanted to learn to open a wine store. TB Ackerson owner helping him plan this venture.
Hip hip hooray for a wine shop!! I have tried to allocate my little dollars to support local businesses but man....when I come home and want a bottle of wine and my preferred wine shop down the street is closed for reasons unknown...well...it leaves me wanting for a wine shop in the 'hood where I can spend my little dollars in.
Carmen have you tried 65 Fen on fenimore s5?
I imagine that's the one she means, as I, too, have found their hours somewhat (ahem) irregular of late. Most recently it seems they've moved the store back to its original location due to a persistent leak in the ceiling of the new (ex-PLG Outpost) space. The new(ish) wine store on NY Ave by Midwood is more consistent, hours-wise, if their selection isn't as interesting (more wines, plus liquors, but not as broad a range). And I am SO relieved to learn of the pass on the old Blue Roost/B Fruitee space - same slumlord owner as 64 Lincoln Rd., featuring an unrepaired leak causing the ceiling to collapse every other year or so. It's why Blue Roost left, and it's why Blue Roost's predecessor business left. Don't think B Fruitee was around long enough to experience this joy - I'd say the space is about due for it.
I heard that someone at one point was attempting to open a wine shop where the short lived pawn shop opened on Lefferts and Flatbush, but that the liquor store on Maple and 65 Fen blocked them from getting a license. Does anyone know if that's true?
yes. The liquor store up near you is famous for fighting, or claiming they'll fight, liquor license applicants from being too close to them. There is a 200 foot rule for churches/schools, and a 500 foot rule if you have three or more establishments already next to each other. Weird.
And yes, that's part of what happened to the Blue Roost B'Fruitee location.
So, what's an entrepreneurial person to do? Look to Rogers?
That's real shitty of the liquor store. I have a very strong sense that a legit wine shop would not take any of their drunk and high loiterers/customers away.
Don't sweat it Alex. There are TWO new wine stores coming very soon. One over by Bluebird Cafe...I'll write more when the owner gets back to me w/ timeline.
Nifty!
Alex: You don't think the guy in the bandana who alternately conducts business, dozes on the trash can, and fights with people outside the Maple liquor store would jump at the chance to go upscale and move over to the new wine store? :)
The guy who once screamed p*ssy at me about 6 inches from my face? You're right, I think he's probably looking out for an ideal pinot. Looks can be so deceiving.
Now officially at 1125 Nostrand Avenue. littlemowine.com
