The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

And Just Like That...Gone

This one hurts. Such a gorgeous old building, the old Congregational Home at 123 Linden Blvd. 3 views through the ages:

Look for the new building to be at least 20 stories high, and the old-age home to have at least a few years left of funding as a result. Last I peeked the sign for Councilman Mathieu Eugene was still up, neglected, like the way he treats our neighborhood.

Not only that, it was on the National Register of Historic Places (Like the Congregational/UCC church on Bedford & Hawthorne), which coveys ZERO protection in NYC. Need to be a City-designated landmark to be preserved. The fact the Mathieu Eugene and Yvette Clarke, who both had offices in this building, did nothing to stop it (granted, there wasn't a lot they could do, as they were merely tenants, but certainly some political pressure could have been brought to bear) makes me respect them even less, if possible.
