The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Lark - Coffee Joint on Church Opens

Ditmas Park Corner notes that the new nifty coffee hangout "Lark" is now open. Photo below gratefully stolen from their story, linked here. Digging those light fixtures, Lark! Seems a little renaissance is afoot on Church just north of the mammoth Victorian mansions of Prospect Park South. For Caledonians, this is most definitely in walking distance. Open for biz - check 'em out.

I'm excited about this place. They've combined items from some great places like Dough, Stumptown, Bagel Hole, and Bluemarble. Can't wait to try it out!

I went yesterday after reading about it here, and it is amazing. Freakin' awesome cappuccino and a homemade twinkie. Yes, that's right, one of the awesome baked goods is a homemade twinkie. I do wish the place was a wee bit closer, but hey I gotta burn off the twinkie calories somehow!!

It's so true this is exactly what Blue Roost should have been doing. Church and this area also has an organic grocery I hear is decent. By the way, sorry for going off topic, if you all don't know OJ market on Flatbush bet Maple and Midwood yet, go there and make it your regular neighborhood market. They did a little reno, have expanded offerings, actually make an effort, the lady at the register makes note of things you look for that they don't have. Way way better than Papa & Sons and much more produce. Not much if any is organic produce but it's fresh and good. They do have organic dairy and snacks and other foods.

I went to Lark yesterday - it was lovely. Unfortunately, it is also FAR - it's closer to CIA than Ocean, so not really a viable option for PLGers, even those down south. But seriously, how great would it be to have something like that here? Dough doughnuts, Blue Marble ice cream, Colson pastries, Stumptown coffee AND free wi-fi. Why are we so overlooked? And I totally agree about OJ vs. Papa's!

hmm. I traipsed over, and got a good but over priced iced coffee (only one size? BUT WHY?) and an AMAZING donut that was Dulce de Leche flavor (!!!). However, although there was only one other person there, so my friend and I sat down and started to chat. More people came in with kids...and more people with kids...and the noise level went up and up...to the point where we really couldn't hear each over and had to leave :( THe idea of having a place that is child friendly is really nice but the acoustics were not designed for so many voices. too bad ....It was perfect until that happened.
