The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Parade Ground Stabbing Death

I don't even know why I feel obliged to pass these things along, grizzly and ghastly as they are. But 11:51 on a Sunday morning? Don't gangstas go to church anymore? Ugh. Seems the victim was no stranger to trouble, but still, depressing stuff. Summer's truly here when the City has deadly weekends like this one just past. Teenager Stabbed.

Was the young man from our immediate neighborhood? Does anyone know his family? I hate it when people die at this spot, a few blocks from our house, and they seemingly vanish like disappearing ink on the police blotter.

wow. I was walking my dog by there around this time. There's usually quite a crowd around the basketball courts, and this sunday was especially crowded giving that the heat had kicked back a bit.

Also, it says in the DNA article the victim was from Prospect Park South.

A meditation on being young, killed, and of no interest to the media, and on how we define our "neighbor":

Ugh, so awful. It will probably go unsolved, unless someone comes forward.
