The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Participate in the Budget - Cumbo Style

If you live north of Empire, the ducks are pretty much in a row to vote on various participatory budget items. They want to double the number of votes to more than 3,000 this year. Do-able sure, especially if you have a favorite item you would love to see happen. Your vote goes a heck of a lot farther than your 1/2 a vote (in NY) for President. Preview the projects here. Of course, no word yet on Mathieu Eugene's plans for my (our?) 40th District, south of Empire. Heck he was resistant to the whole notion of you, the voters, deciding how to spend a portion of his discretionary budget in the first place.

Participatory Budgeting Vote Week Begins March 25th!

Dear Constituents,
It is a tremendous honor to represent the 40th District in the City Council. In my role as a public servant, I have been granted so many wonderful opportunities to help improve our borough, while also examining new ways to strengthen the bond between the city and the people we serve.

This marks the second year our district has taken part in Participatory Budgeting, and I am pleased to say that we have already brought about significant improvements to our neighborhoods. Last year, I was able to allocate over $1 million in funding for capital projects. These included computer lab and gymnasium upgrades, the Kensington Dog Run, and new community barbecue sites at Prospect Park.

The process of Participatory Budgeting is a vital aspect of our democracy, and it empowers residents to be proactive in promoting the growth of the community. As a member of the City Council, I do everything in my power to support the ever changing demographics of Brooklyn, and Participatory Budgeting is a crucial part of those efforts.

This year, residents of the 40th district will choose up to 5 of the following capital projects during Vote Week, which runs March 25 through April 2nd:
Safe Pedestrian Path Through West Parade Ground
New Play Yard for Ditmas Park
AC for High Need Schools
Upgrade Audio/Visual System for PS 92
Trees for Rogers Avenue
Technology Upgrades for PS 217
Sidewalk Extension at Prospect Park Station
Safety Improvement at Rogers & Rutland
Safety Improvements at Flatbush & Rutland

Voting will take place at the following locations:
