Just came back from a walk down Hawthorne. 48 burned, and thank God no one was hurt. Here's a couple pics. Nearly 30 firemen on the scene. The helicopter? Strange thing to send to a fire scene, but maybe to provide light?
The Q at Parkside
News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

What a shame. Apart from the family(ies)' misfortune, that was a handsome house and I've always wondered about it.
I spoke to one of the occupants who lives downstairs, he said the plan is to fix the place. Hopefully insurance will cover it and the internal damage isn't too bad. The fire-damaged house on Fenimore I has been languishing for two years now, at least.
