The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

There's a New Sheriff In Town

Actually, there's a bunch of new sherriffs. Actually, it's more like there's a new team in town, led by the Good Doctor Cuts. After years of struggling to move forward, the merchants of the Flabenue have finally started what's sure to be a re-energized merchant's association. Just check out the press release:

And their first General Merchant Meeting is coming up on Monday. Tell everyone at your fave local shops to join! Lincoln Road and Parkside included, and anyone just off Flatbush.

The new name - Parkside Empire - is awesome. So is Desmond, from Dr. Cuts, the new president and everyone on the Board. Happily, the new board reflects the great diversity of the Flabenue itself. This is great news folks. Great news indeed.

Is there something of the like for Parkside to church?

Heck yes! But it's not a merchant's association, it's a full-on Business Improvement District, and they have a new head, the woman who runs the Church Ave BID. I'm having lunch with her tomorrow. Will let you know what I find out.

Btw, it goes from Parkside to Beverly.

May I also add, want to hear from the community. What do you like? what would you like changed? What new businesses would you like to see? After all, we all opened our businesses here to serve YOU, help us be the best we can be. We welcome you to join our cause. We have a lot we want to accomplish this year, we're going to need the help of our local merchants and community. Our end goal is to form a BID, but it takes time and the cooperation of the building owners in our merchant strip.

This is very encouraging - thank you! Exciting for businesses to open and flourish. Would like to see less trash on the street and I guess since you're asking it seems like the neighborhood could use a good old fashioned diner... Good luck with the organizing!

Hi Newbie to PLG,

I agree a diner would be a tremendous asset. I talked to a new business owner last night, she is hoping to open a sit down restaurant, not sure of all the details, they're in the beginning stages of planning.

A place modeled after Dumont in Williamsburg would go nuts in PLG.
