The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Six Tre Outlaw Gangsta Disciples Folk Nation

If you didn't see this piece about the gangs of Ebbets Field houses, it's well worth the read. Killer name for a bunch of killerz. NYTIMES GANGS OF EBBETS.

Jeez, what a bunch of winners. Drug gangs are bad too but at least dealing is a form of work. These guys just robbed people to finance their chosen lifestyle. Very glad the people of the Ebbets houses are rid of them. Plenty decent people live there, they shouldn't have to tolerate dillweeds like this just because they're poor.

"Dealing is a form of work." Yes, but an illegal one and one that funds atrocious violence all over the world, from the drug gangs in Mexico, to Afghan poppy fields where women and girls toil 10 hours a day 7 days a week, to gun fights and turf battles right here in Brooklyn. Sorry, until drugs are legalized (and even then) dealing will not be an acceptable occupation and drug dealing and violence will go hand in hand.

Think about that the next time you patronize your friendly local dealer for some pot or coke.

and next time you buy a computer, think of the "legal" slavery involved in China and throughout the developing world. no one's hands are industry means global culpability to violence and misery, drugs included.

on a brighter note, you can get money back for trading in your old iPad! so even though yours is working fine and just a year old, GO GET A NEW ONE!!!

Babs, I agree completely. It's why I called drug gangs losers.

Or rather I said "bad". Funny, I'd initially said "losers" but edited myself when that would have been expressing my real feelings better!

And that's a good point about the computer - or, more specifically, the iPad/iPhone situation. Like most people, I was shocked and appalled to learn of the conditions at the Chibese factory where these items are produced (principally iPhones, I believe). Just a reminder that just because a product might seem kind of cool, the conditions behind its production may not be. I will certainly investigate same before buying any more devices. This, however, has nothing to do with drug dealing or gangs in our midst.
