The Q at Parkside

(for those for whom the Parkside Q is their hometrain)

News and Nonsense from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Lefferts and environs, or more specifically a neighborhood once known as Melrose Park. Sometimes called Lefferts Gardens. Or Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Or PLG. Or North Flatbush. Or Caledonia (west of Ocean). Or West Pigtown. Across From Park Slope. Under Crown Heights. Near Drummer's Grove. The Side of the Park With the McDonalds. Jackie Robinson Town. Home of Lefferts Manor. West Wingate. Near Kings County Hospital. Or if you're coming from the airport in taxi, maybe just Flatbush is best.

Lefferts Gardens Charter School Loses Leader

A number of folks asked the Q to substantiate the rumor that Marc Magnus-Sharpe has resigned as head of the Lefferts Gardens Charter School.  Yes, in the most general sense, it is indeed true. Other than that the Q's learned little else for certain, and in deference to what I'm sure was a very difficult decision, it's probably best not to speculate. I'll be sure to pass along info as I hear it. Feel free to comment here, with civility as a watchword of course.

This is indeed a big blow to our local charter school. Marc was highly regarded and personable. If his departure is the result of the board or its chair, rather than personal reasons or misconduct, the board should take a long hard look at itself. The role of a board is to support the leaders and teachers, not the other way around.

Couldn't have said it any better, Benjamin. I'd add that if it *is* the result of the board or its chair (and I don't know that it is, I'm just sayin') that they should reach out to Marc and see if there's anything to do to get him back. It is otherwise a HUGE loss.

Benjamin, you are correct in your assumption.

We are not a current family at the school but the couple times I contacted Marc with questions about various things he was very quick to respond and was cordial and helpful. I was impressed.

I am a current parent of two LGCS students and I must say Marc's resignation is the best decision for the future of LGCS. His resignation is the sole reason I will keep my children there for another year.

...interesting, the board, staff, and the families make a great school, like 5 fingers to a hand. I hope someone begins to spread the word and realistically share, "its my school" and work in conjunction. The staff does not raise the child, the parent typically do not have a teaching degree. The principal n board have a building for you all to meet....MAKE IT WORK!
